The Pickwick Papers is Dickens' first novel and widely regarded as one of the major classics of comic writing in English. Originally serialised in monthly instalments, it quickly became a huge popular success with sales reaching 40,000 by the final part.

Charles Dickens was a British novelist, journalist, editor, illustrator and social commentator who wrote such beloved classic novels as Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, Nicholas Nickleby, David Copperfield, A Tale of Two Cities and Great Expectations.


Dickens is remembered as one of the most important and influential writers of the 19th century. Among his accomplishments, he has been lauded for providing a stark portrait of the Victorian-era underclass, helping to bring about social change.

    Fine first edition, bound in green leather and marbled boards, with gilding to spine. Previous owner's marks and provenance to one of the front flyleaves, and another name written to title page. Slight separation of first two illustrations (illustrated title page and facing page) near spine. Browning to edges, especially plate pages. Very nice and collectible copy.
