About the book

Laurens van der Post was in a Japanese PoW camp in Java when the atom bombs that ended the war destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Both a moving memoir of his experiences in the camp and a meditation on the morality of the bombs, The Night of the New Moon is also a compassionate contemplation of the Japanese guards and their western prisoners.
